Day 4: January 8, 2019
Day four was all kinds of exciting for the group. Corazon Creek continued building the new playground, and by the end of the day the kids were finally able to start using their new slides safely. The playground will hopefully be completed tomorrow on the 9th(5th Day). It will be fully decked out with swings and a tin roof. The students continually ran to get back in line after they finished their turn excited for another go. It made all of the labor in the hot sun worth it.
Education continued for all of the schools with art and PE at Blue Creek, STEM at Corazon and language arts at San Lucas. After a nice little rain storm to cool things off, post lunch activities took place in temperate weather. For those Saint Louis readers of the blog could relate to the constantly changing weather we have here in the south of Belize. Once the day’s work was over everyone headed to the Chaab’il B’e lodge where some of our group stays the night for a special Bazaar with the Call family. Usually referred to as the ‘Call girls’, these women have lovey crafted authentic Belizean treasures which quickly sold to the amazed Americans looking for souvenirs. (Side note: all of the men smile and joke about the ‘call girls’) After our little shopping spree we all came back to the retreat center for a delicious dinner of chicken noodle soup over rice with the bone still in the chicken and tamales made by a family who’s kids have health struggles.
Please keep in your prayers all of the people your friends and family meet down here in Belize. Thank God everyday for how much and how good we have it in America.
Day Four, two thumbs up and ready for day five!
