Water Solutions

Through the years, BCM has partnered with Shoes & Hope, HydroMissions, Solea Water, New Life International, Plenty International, and HOW Global to address the water crisis in southern Belize.

In 2015, our Water Solutions Program provided Sawyer bucket filters for families in three communities and LifeStraw community filters for two schools.

In January 2018, we completed the construction of four spring boxes, complete with pipes, reaching over one hundred homes in Dolores. Until then, the entire community had no water source for several weeks during the dry season each year.

In 2019, the community of San Lucas helped with the installation of a 2,000-gallon capacity, river-sourced, solar-powered water purification system. Thanks to New Life International and Solar Trek for working with us to provide an entire village with safe, clean water! View New Life International’s Facebook Post Here

Our partnership with Plenty International Belize enabled us to provide solar water pumping, pipes, a tank, and a concrete block tank stand for Machakil Ha in 2022. Now the community has access to water even during the dry season. Three indigenous women, trained as solar engineers install and maintain solar power in rural communities. In January of 2023, a severely clogged well in Otoxha prevented our plans to install a solar-powered submersible pump and piping for the school’s water supply. After a year of working with a local contractor we were able to complete the project. Our partnership with HOW Global allowed for the addition of new gutters to collect rainwater for handwashing.

Blue Creek School’s Principal asked what could be done to provide safe, clean drinking water for his students. In June 2024 we installed Sawyer faucet filters on sinks that had been reserved for handwashing only. Just a few days later, the principal reported that he felt much better after drinking water with the filters attached to the faucets.

Punta Negra is a small fishing village on the coast of southern Belize. In 2025, Barefoot Children Ministries partnered with HOW Global to provide water-collection supplies and a solar-powered pump. This new water source helps the local women’s group operate their restaurant and produce coconut oil for income. After visiting and making coconut oil and coconut fudge with the ladies, we are anxious to return!
