Conservation
Barefoot Children Ministries works with Hope Seeds to provide families with quality garden seeds shown to have proven results in Central America. We provide families with seed packets containing twelve fruit and vegetable varieties when they commit to planting them. High schools and elementary schools also plant the seeds in their gardens. When we return to Belize, we enjoy fresh watermelon, cucumbers, and peppers, and between visits we receive photos of homegrown goodies!
Through our partnership with the Xucaneb group of farming families in San Pedro Columbia, BCM provides communities with established fruit tree seedlings. Our goal is to protect the environment, improve nutrition, and possibly generate future income for families. Our education team helps to distribute the seedlings and supports the project with nutrition and botany lessons. Since 2019, we have been delivering trees to schoolyards and families in eleven communities.
After the wildfires in 2024, BCM purchased and delivered 2,000 jippijappa palm and calabash plants to San Lucas ad Mabil Ha where farmers depend on these plants to make the crafts they sell. Thanks to HIABL Ltd. and the Xucaneb group for coordinating the delivery before our arrival.
