Sunday
After getting some sleep, we all headed out to San Lucas to begin construction on a water pump/filtration system. It was interesting to watch the men of the village “discuss” the location. The families at the north end of the village, of course, want the water source near their homes. Those in the south end want the same. This is a picture of the lively discussion. We could not understand the Ketchi Mayan words, but we knew it was intense. Finally, a location was chosen, fairly close to the originally suggested spot. This foundation will need to hold a 1000 gallon water tank and will be 10 feet wide and 20 feet from front to back. This was all dug out by hand with shovels and pickaxes, quite an undertaking.
