Building Community Across 2600 Miles

Each trip to Belize is unique and incredible it its own way. I was overwhelmed with gratitude last week when Barefoot Children Ministries returned to our favorite little corner of the world to visit villages that we’ve known for many years. Several friends in Belize work year-round to see that our programs continue to thrive even after we return home. School children could not wait to show us that the trees delivered in January, through our partnership with Ya’axche Conservation Trust, are thriving! Established seedlings were delivered to 175 additional families. We enjoyed a little graduation party for Arnaldo, one of our high school scholarship recipients. The ladies are using the washable pads that Tammy helped them sew last year and they were pleased to have an opportunity to make even more. Over 200 families received small first aid-kits. School principals complimented the variety of hands-on activities that we provided in three schools. Fr. Bob said Mass in five communities, and we brought our Honoring Elders program to two additional villages. We met with widows who showed us home repairs made possible through the Binny Fund. We also completed our most ambitious construction project to date, a solar-powered, water purification system in the village of San Lucas. It was an honor working alongside young men whom we have known since their primary school days in order to provide safe, clean water for their families! THANKS to everyone who supports our work!
