Monday
We drove down to Otoxha today to help paint the church. About a dozen men from the village showed up along with many boys (no school today). The cinder block building got a fresh coat of paint, both inside and out, before lunchtime. The guys in the village were pretty happy to have Marcus around today since he was the only person tall enough to paint the top of the walls without a ladder. Abbie, Allie and Lauryn found a couple of cute puppies that they really wished they could find a way to bring home. Three families wanted to cook lunch for us so we split up. Two homes served chicken caldo and at the third house they had tortillas and scrambled eggs. We all walked back to school after lunch, but the paint wasn’t dry enough for a second coat, so the men will finish it up tomorrow. The sun finally came out today after a couple of brief showers. We’ve packed up our school supplies and are ready to head to Dolores in the morning.
