Winding Down

11/12/23

Day 6: We started winding things down on Thursday and saying our goodbyes. It was a little sad leaving all the children’s smiling faces as they waved goodbye repeating “Bye Miss, Bye Sir” in unison.

It was our last day at St. Mark’s R.C. School. We spent the day helping kids write letters to pen pals from All Saints Church. Each kid was given a letter with a picture on it, and wrote a reply. We also took two photos of each student on a Polaroid camera. The kids were so excited about this! They kept one and mailed the other one to their pen pal.

It was so nice to see how well the kids worked together and helped each other. Some of the kids went above and beyond and wrote their own letters entirely by hand and even colored them.

Martin and Manuel put together a celebration in our honor. We gathered with all the students and teachers for a heartfelt thank you, a couple prayer, and performance. At the end, they called us to the front one at a time to present us with a special handmade gift. They gave us a bag of gifts to bring to the other volunteers who weren’t with us. The crew at Dolores had a similar celebration.

Barefoot Children Ministries always makes a point to reach out to the widows. We currently have 15 widows that we visit to brighten their day.

Standout moment:

We had some downtime at St. Mark’s so we gathered kids of all ages and played frisbee. It was so rewarding to see them so happy, running, jumping, and laughing.

Please keep posted for future blogs. Thanks for reading!
