Day 2: January 6, 2019

After a long day on long backroads, the group unwinds by goofing off while planning lessons for the coming week. The twenty seven of us were treated to mass followed by Caldo in the village of Otoxha(pronounced otoshaw). The mass was about 50/50 between being spoken in English and the native language, Kekchi Mayan. After, we went to Corazon Creek to see the site where we will be building a playground. Then we visited San Lucas to meet old friends from previous retreats. The last two stops we made were also to see old friends and to buy some handcrafted Belizean goods. A woodcarver was happy to take our business and accept orders that will be picked up later in the week. We started off home and just before we could get back to paved road, car trouble ensued. Ann’s car (the car I went in) caught a big pothole and the rear passenger wheel well started to make an awful, concerning noise. Thankfully we were not the last car in the caravan. The car behind us took some weight and we got back to Forest Home Retreat Center just fine. We relaxed for about an hour and had chicken and rice for dinner which hit the spot. Everyone gathered in the conference room to discuss lesson plans but then ended up goofing around and having a grand ol time. The night wrapped up with chips, salsa, stories and wine. Overall a fun game filled with adventure.
