Day 5: January 9, 2019

Day five had us all over the place with five different groups in five different places. Corazon has the biggest portion of the crew with teaching and progression with the playground. It’s almost done! After lunch at Corazon Creek, the village got a couple groups of surprise visitors. A Belgian couple was going to be traveling through South America and stopped in Belize to do the Mayan Trail.(Corazon is on that trail apparently) The some American hikers came through on their way to Guatemala. In school, they learned about plant life and math. When there’s math there’s fun is what I always like to say, so Corazon has an exciting day. Over at San Lucas, teachers were doing cartwheels and horses were “running by with their leashes but without a rider”, said one cartwheeling teacher, Kinberlynn. She taught PE and team building while others taught language arts at San Lucas. A third place, Blue Creek, is getting prepared for the World Championship Air Rocket launching contest to be held at BC on Friday(day 7, stay tuned for results). The kiddos there also enjoyed learning some arts and crafts. At place #4, our fearless leader Ann Lacker worked towards future projects the group will be doing in Belize on later trips. She and one other member also delivered medical supplies to the Punta Guarda hospital.

Finally, the most exciting place of them all… the Senior Center? Yes! The senior center was filled with joy as 50-70 year old Belizean citizens were provided with new reading and sun glasses. The men fought to find the gaudiest, most bedazzled pair they could find, no joke. Our four members hosted a variety of intense games like fly swatter balloon ball which had vigorous competition. Some dancing, namely, the Hokey Pokey. (I bet next will be the Macarena) The most intense game a group of senior citizens will play, apparently anywhere in the world, is Bingo. They played at least a dozen games of Bingo and loved every second. Some even wanted to start their own Bingo club. The only activity which confused them a little was decorating cookies because they are not like Americans. They don’t need their food to look pretty to eat it. The picture above is of one adorable senior citizen getting her first pair of glasses which fit fairly well with her outfit. Day 5 is done and now we only have 4 trips left on the bumpiest roads in southern North America.
